Are PHATINC music downloads Limited by DRM?

NO, use our music in your car, home stereo and CPU!  Digital rights management (DRM) was  developed for the traditional music industry as a means of protection against online spread of commercially marketed material. DRM is....a good thing., but in this case Phatinc believes it disables artist, in that it limits their ability to grow a fan base. We         don't want our customers limited in how they listen to the music and with whom the customer listens to the music after purchase.

PHILOSOPHY

Why does Phatinc Music sell mp3s?

We believe that music has a value, regardless on what media it comes on. People who agree should have the possibility to buy MP3 for a small fee that represents the artist and label earnings of a traditional record sale. Phatinc ask our customers to handle Mp3 downloads respectfully. Only for private use.

Please note, that you will - just like when buying a CD - have a copyrighted recording. All rights of the producer and the owner are protected by copyright.

How to...

I am having problems purchasing music from your site.

How do I copy or "burn" tracks to a CD?

A: To copy or "burn" tracks to CD, we recommend that you use the Windows Media Player (v.9.x). Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com to update your  Windows Media Player. Once updated, please refer to the Help section in the Windows Media  Player for detailed instructions on how to burn a CD. For your convenience, we’ve included some basic steps here:

  1. Create a playlist by going to "Media Library". Click on Playlist-New Playlist. Give your new playlist a name. Populate the playlist with the songs you want burned to CD.
  2. Click on "Copy to CD or Device" in the navigation bar on the left. Choose the playlist you want to burn to CD under "Items to Copy". Then on the top right side under "Items on Device", click on the down arrow which will bring down a drop down menu that will allow you to choose the device that you want to copy to. Choose the CD burning option.
  3. Click on the "Copy" button on the top right hand side of the Windows Media Player. That's it.

Note: Before burning a CD, we recommend that you shut down any other applications running in the background as this can be a memory intensive process. Check your systray (bottom right hand corner next to your system time) and shut down any other CD burning applications (i.e.: Nero, Roxio, Musicmatch, etc.) that may be running. If you choose a third party burning application like Nero or Roxio to burn your CDs and continue to experience problems, please contact their customer support department for assistance.

OTHER RESOURCE TIPS

How do I copy music to my Portable Device?

A: Please check Microsoft's "Cool Devices" list found here (http://windowsmedia.com/9series/Personalization/CoolDevices.asp) to ensure that your device is compatible with the Windows Media Player (v.9.x). To update your Windows Media Player, go here http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com. Once you've updated the Windows Media Player and confirmed that the Windows Media Player can recognize your device, please refer to the Help section in the Windows Media Player for detailed instructions on how to copy music to your Portable Device. For your convenience, we've included some basic steps here:

  1. Create a playlist by going to "Media Library". Click on Playlist-New Playlist. Give your new playlist a name. Populate the playlist with the songs you want exported to your device.
  2. Click on "Copy to CD or Device" in the navigation bar on the left. Choose the playlist you want to export to your device under "Items to Copy". Then on the top right side under "Items on Device", click on the down arrow which will bring down a drop down menu that will allow you to choose the device that you want to copy to. Choose your portable device.
  3. Click on the "Copy" button on the top right hand side of the Windows Media Player. That's it.

How do I find the tracks I downloaded?

A: You can do a search for your tracks by going to the START MENU-- SEARCH -- FOR FILES AND FOLDER. Set the search parameters to check all local drives, then enter **.mp3 or "*.wma (no quotes) in the search field. Once the requested search parameters are entered, click the SEARCH NOW button. The filename for the MP3 or WMA files purchased from us or one of our partners is usually in the form of "_.mp3" or "_.wma". If you are downloading music for the first time, your computer will save your music to a temp folder by default. When the box comes up to save your music before downloading, you can change the destination of where your music will be saved. We recommend saving it to "my documents/ my music". Second, we recommend you check that Internet Explorer is not set to stream music by default. To fix this:

  1. Go to Internet Explorer and then click on the Media button.
  2. At the bottom left-hand corner, select the Media Options drop-down menu and select Settings. Then remove the check mark next to Play web media in the bar.

Note: If trying to right-click on "Download" and "Save target as" prior to the aforementioned steps the track would stream instead of being saved.

After changing this setting, save it to "my documents/my music" as you normally would.

Lastly, we recommend that you configure the Windows Media Player to save your music to the "My Documents/My Music" folder. You can do this by:
  1. Click on Tools and then select options.
  2. Click on the Copy Music tab. You should see "copy music to this location"; there it should say "My Documents/My Music". If not click on the Change button.
  3. Click Apply and then Ok

I am using AOL as my browser and cannot get my tracks to download. What do I do?

A: On the download screen that indicates that the licenses have been stored to your computer, you will need to do a right-click on the "Download" link and select "Save Target As…" Then specify the name of the folder you wish to save it in. We recommend saving it to the "My Music" folder located in the "My Documents" folder.

I can't seem to download the song(s) I purchased. Can I get a refund?

A: all sales of digital downloads are final, however we will correct any multi song/album over charges of same day downloading of same song or album only.  Click here to contact Customer service.
